So in retrospect it was a really funny thing to do, but at the time we kinda took it badly, but I’ve become more appreciative of Steve-O’s work since then. They had no idea who we where, they had no agenda with us, they just said throw the eggs at the next band that happened to be us.
#Electric six gay bar 2 download
G: Jackass, yes…So Download then, what happened with Steve-O and the egg attack on the Six?ĭ: We just kinda won the lottery of being the band that follows them. I’d feel like a jackass, you might as well take the money and run. And, with they're album 'Fire' due out on 30th June 2003, you can be sure that they'll want to take you to a gay bar.D: Oh yeah! That’s the thing about our band, you can’t possibly play the intergrity card when you got a song like ‘ Gay Bar’ or ‘ Danger! High Voltage’, I mean, like what are you gonna do, you’re gonna be sitting in a bar one day saying, ‘yeah, I wanted to preserve the integrity of ‘Gay Bar’ so I turned down a lot of money’. Together with (yet again) a very OTT video (for those of you who are unfortunate not to have seen it, let me just say a couple of words: Dick Valentine as a half-naked Abraham Lincoln, pole-dancing), the Electric Six look set to be rock 'n' roll kings. Again, the cathcing riff is present, along with simple yet humerous lyrics. Similarities appear between 'Danger! High Voltage', Electric Six's pervious chart-topper and the soon-to-be chart topper 'Gay Bar' are apparent. "I've got something to put in you.at the Gay Bar") mixed with Dick Valentine's sexy-pitched vocals 'do it' (bad expression) for the listener. Or, from a musical point of view, the catchy guitar riffs and sometimes obscene lyrics (e.g. The sheer attitude of the single itself sums up why it is so popular. Not to be stereotypical (which, I fear, is what I am being right now), Gay Bar is all of this and more. Even the words themselves invoke images of too-tight leather trousers and floppy-hands. Pick it up as soon as possible, as it is HIGHLY reccomended. Also, if you want my advice, I would pick this one up quickly - MTV refuses to show it, and a lot of the other channels are following suit after a particularly heated protest from a parent action group. It's a great video for a great song taken from a great album. Nevertheless, it's a noble attempt by any standard, and if it does nothing else, it should at least convince you to buy Fire (the album from which this single was taken).
The video is a brilliant follow up to Danger! High Voltage, and it's understandable - for image reasons - why they held this for the second single. Whether or not you can stomach watching it again is entirely down to personal taste. Some bits are lost on us, and some little homosexual tricks are perfectly understood, for whatever reason (I'd have to give thanks to South Park and Family Guy for explaining the hamster reference to me). We've all seen the long, cylindrical objects. We've all seen the hamster scurrying through the tube. We've all seen it - or bits of it, at least.
